NON INVASIVE METHODS (ENDDOSCOPIC PROCEDURES)

Restrictive Surgery means it restricts calorie intake of the person by reducing the size of stomach. Because of this calorie restriction person looses weight.

• ENDOSCPOIC SLEEVE GASTROPLASTY

Small Endoscope is introduced in stomach through mouth. Once it is inside stomach, few stiches are taken on inner wall of stomach to make the stomach size small. Because of the reduced size of stomach, the person cannot eat more calories and person looses weight.
No cut made during this method as endoscope is introduced through mouth only. So it is completely non invasive method of weight loss. Person can lose up to 15-20 kg weigh in 8-10 months after this procedure.

• INTRA GASTRIC BALOON

A silicon balloon is introduced in stomach through mouth by an endoscope. Once balloon is inside it is filled with water around 400-500 ml. This occupies large area of stomach and free space for food inside stomach is reduced. That’s how patients calorie intake is reduced and person looses weight. 12-18 kg weight loss can be achieved with this method. After 6 months or a year this balloon needs to be removed.

MINIMAL INVASIVE PROCEDURS (LAPAROSCOPIC PROCEDURES)

• LAPAROSCOPIC GASTRIC BANDING

A Silicon Band is wrapped around upper part of stomach. This is how stomach is divided in upper 1/3 and lower 2/3. When person eats, the food goes to upper 1/3 part of stomach, which fills very fast and person fees his stomach is full. This is how calorie intake is restricted and person looses weight. This is not very popular method for Indian subcontinent. There are chances of band erosion inside the stomach and chances of stomach perforations are also there.

• LAPAROSCOPIC SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY

This is one of the most popular method of obesity surgery. With a small laparoscope introduced in abdomen and with help of Endoscopic Automatic Staplers the stomach is made small . So the capacity of calorie ingestion by person reduced and person looses weight. This method can give good weight loss and it has minimum side effects. Along with good weightloss it has also good effect on diabetes and blood pressure. Many research and studies have shown that sleeve Gastrectomy (Metabolic surgery) can cure diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol related heart disease .

MALABSORPTIVE SURGERY

Malabsorptive procedures means by doing this procedure , absorption of the high calories is reduced. Along with restriction, adding mal absorptive procedures adds benefits to patients in form of losing weight as well as getting cure for metabolic diseases like Diabetes Mellitus, High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Cardiac Problems.

• ROUX EN Y GASTRIC BYPASS

In this procedure, stomach is made small size of 50-70 ml. This small size stomach is attached directly with part of intestine which is detached from its place and brought to stomach so food from stomach can pass directly to intestine. This is a standard bariatric procedure done all over the world and it has shown excellent results for weight loss as well as resolution of Diabetes.

• MINI GASTRIC BYPASS

This is very similar procedure to Roux en Y gastric bypass procedure, but here intestine is not detached but loop of intestine is brought to stomach and attached there. In Mini Gastric Bypass (One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass- OAGB), the size of stomach is little larger, so person can accommodate little more food but it has strong malabsorptive capacity. So the calories are not absorbed and weight loss is achieved. This is very strong procedure and great metabolic benefits in form of curing diabetes and cardiac problems.
